Hanckel-Citizens Insurance began protecting families and businesses in Charlottesville and the surrounding areas over 150 years ago. We’re proud of what we do and are committed to developing and maintaining good relationships with each other, our clients, and our company partners.
At Hanckel-Citizens, we know that balancing our personal and professional lives is an art. We are primarily an in-person company with sales agents in our downtown Charlottesville office most days of the week. Being in-office-focused enables us all to enjoy the energy that comes from being in the same place. It also makes it easier to build relationships and continue our professional growth by working together and with our clients.
Although our office is our primary point of focus, we also appreciate having the flexibility to work from home. Work from home time is available to our account managers, who come to the office on a rotating schedule. Other staff work fully remotely or in the office based on our business needs and their preferences.

We’re a traditional kind of company, but life at Hanckel-Citizens isn’t all work. All employees are also eligible for a 401(k) with profit sharing, health insurance, life and AD&D coverage, and an annual bonus. We have a generous paid time off policy and observe 10 holidays. In addition, we have modified summer hours and take Wednesday afternoons off during the months of June, July and August.
